Government Prioritizes Alternative Routes for Essential Goods

protr In a high-level meeting chaired by Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, the government outlined a strategic framework to accelerate the clearance and release of essential goods through northern ports and land borders.

The session, held under the auspices of the Cargo Clearance and Release Facilitation Council, focused on mitigating supply chain bottlenecks by leveraging road and rail fleets as viable alternatives to southern ports.

The meeting brought together high-rank managers, including Mehran Ghorbani, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mohammad Shakibinasab, managing directorof the Ports and Maritime Organization, Reza Akbar, Head of the Road Transport and Highways Organization, and Jabbarali Zakeri, managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways. Representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry, Mine and Trade, Agriculture, Economic Affairs and Finance, and Health, alongside private sector leaders in the supply chain, also attended.

During the session, a comprehensive report was presented on the current status of cargo loading and unloading, with a specific emphasis on essential commodities. The council examined proposed alternative routes designed to bypass congestion at southern ports, ensuring the timely delivery of basic goods to the market.

Minister Sadegh emphasized the critical need to enhance the capacity of northern ports. The discussion delved into the current operational status of these facilities, warehousing capabilities, and the implementation of efficient mechanisms for transporting essential goods.
